Ing. Josef Geyder Metalltechnik GmbH at a Glance

Based in Zistersdorf, Ing. Josef Geyder Metalltechnik GmbH manufactures custom metal structures made of steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. The company delivers special fabrications for industry, commercial customers, home, and garden applications and uses 3D surveying and planning for precise fabrication. As a metal construction and welding company certified according to EN 1090-2, Geyder focuses on accurate planning and high-quality execution.
Its range of services includes railings, stairs, platform structures, canopies, pipework structures, and custom metal structures for industrial plants and residential customers.

Challenge

At Ing. Josef Geyder Metalltechnik GmbH, hardly any two orders are the same. Projects for private customers, industrial companies and energy providers differ significantly, and so do the requirements for planning, design, and documentation.

Many structures have to be built into existing plants or buildings. This means that existing pipes, beams, stairs or other components must already be taken into account during planning. Errors that only become visible during installation can cause additional work steps and delay project workflows.

In addition, the structures not only have to be planned and installed, but also documented in a way that is suitable for fabrication. Workshop, structural engineer, installation team and customer all need different information, ideally based on a single model.

Outcome

With TENADO METAL 3D, Ing. Josef Geyder Metalltechnik GmbH combines on-site 3D surveying with end-to-end digital planning. Point clouds from laser scans are integrated directly into the design process. This allows projects to be designed close to real conditions and potential collisions to be identified as early as the planning stage.

At the same time, saved standards, parametric components and stair and railing generators accelerate recurring work steps. Designs can be adapted more easily and reused for new projects. In this way, TENADO METAL 3D supports both technical planning and the fabrication and documentation processes that follow.

Point Clouds in TENADO METAL 3D – From Surveying to Design

For many projects, the company uses a 3D laser scanner to digitally capture on-site conditions. The resulting point clouds, imported into TENADO METAL 3D, form the basis for further planning. Designs are developed directly on the basis of the real environment rather than relying solely on hand sketches or manual measurements.

This approach is particularly helpful when working in existing industrial plants, where numerous installations, pipes and structural conditions have to be considered. Potential conflicts become visible during the design phase.

This creates planning reliability and helps make adjustments before fabrication begins. In one project, for example, a collision with an existing pipe was identified during the design process and corrected before the workshop work started. Implementing such a change only on the construction site would have been significantly more complex and expensive.

For me, the point cloud function is an advantage when drawing. I can identify collisions early and react before components are fabricated or installed.

Faster Work With Generators and Parametric Parts

An important part of the design process is the railing and stair generators integrated into the software. Because many customers work with fixed standards, frequently used configurations can be saved and used across projects.

Ing. Josef Geyder Metalltechnik GmbH also creates its own parametric components and libraries. This makes it easier to adapt dimensions and variants to new requirements without having to rebuild designs from scratch. Especially in larger projects, this reduces recurring manual work steps.

For railing designs, the generator saves us more than half of the design time.

A Better Basis for Fabrication and Installation

Three-dimensional planning not only improves the design itself, but also supports all subsequent processes. Workshop drawings, structural documents, foundation plans, and installation documentation are generated from the model. Everyone involved works on the basis of the same planning data.

The 3D views provide additional value, especially in the workshop. Designs are easier to understand and complex components can be interpreted more clearly. This makes the transition from planning to fabrication more transparent and reliable.

This creates an end-to-end process from surveying and design through to fabrication, installation and documentation. Different plans can be derived from the 3D model and prepared for the workshop, structural engineering, or construction site as needed.

The colleagues who produce the [component] at least have a 3D plan and know what the whole thing is supposed to look like. They don’t have to think their way into it again themselves.

For railing designs through the use of the generator compared with manual design.

Early collision detection

Potential conflicts become visible during the planning phase, before components are fabricated or installed.

Planning based on real data

3D scans and point clouds provide the basis for designs in existing plants and buildings.

Reusable components

Parametric designs reduce effort for similar projects and variants.

Consistent data basis

Design, workshop, structural engineering, installation and documentation work with the same 3D model.

Flexible plan derivation

Workshop, installation, structural and documentation plans can be derived from the central model.

Maximum Potential for Custom Metal Construction Projects

TENADO METAL 3D supports Ing. Josef Geyder Metalltechnik GmbH in planning custom steel and metal construction projects by combining 3D point cloud functionality, parametric design and practical generators. The software helps design complex projects based on real as-built data, implement recurring work steps more efficiently, and make collisions visible as early as the planning phase.

Metal construction companies that plan custom structures, need to meet a wide range of customer requirements, and want to work flexibly with digital fabrication documents are therefore well advised to use TENADO METAL 3D.

Yes, I would recommend it, quite honestly. Also because AutoCAD runs behind it and because it is a company that has been around for a long time and has no problems. That is a major advantage.
