What is PIPE-FLO?

PIPE-FLO is the worldwide leader in piping system modeling and performance analytics software, with the ability to model hydraulic & gas piping systems or just hydraulic piping systems based on the PIPE-FLO license that you purchase.

What is PIPE-FLO Professional?

PIPE-FLO Professional is the industry-leading hydraulic piping system modeling & performance analytics software. If your systems contain compressed gas components that you need to model, you should look for PIPE-FLO Advantage.

What is PIPE-FLO Advantage?

PIPE-FLO Advantage is the industry-leading hydraulic and compressed gas piping system modeling & performance analytics software.

What is M&SA or Maintenance & Software Assurance?

Maintenance & Software Assurance (M&SA) is the annual maintenance agreement for PIPE-FLO, and covers licensing and general break/fix support for the PIPE-FLO platform.

2. Downloads, Installation & Activation

What do I need to do before I install PIPE-FLO?

Backing Up Your Engineering Files: Installing the latest version of PIPE-FLO will replace your existing My Engineering Files subfolders with newer versions. If you made changes to these folders, make a backup of those files in an alternate location. You can then replace your custom files and Tables back to My Engineering Files after program installation is complete.

Group Policy Permissions: When installing PIPE-FLO in an environment with Group Policy software installation restrictions, you will need to add the exceptions as followed:

How do I install PIPE-FLO?

Installing PIPE-FLO requires administrative permissions. If you do not have the ’Run as administrator’ option, please contact your company’s IT Administrator.

Log in with admin privileges.
Locate and run the PIPE-FLO Setup installer by double-clicking the PIPE-FLO Professional or Advantage Setup.exe.
Follow the steps in the setup wizard. (Select “Retail/Viewer Installation”)
During installation, you may see pop-up windows which may also activate your User Account Control (UAC) windows twice. This is expected. Accept any UAC warnings and continue installing PIPE-FLO.
Your PIPE-FLO installation is now complete.
To Activate your license enter the product key upon in the pop-up window upon your first use of the software.

How do I receive my PIPE-FLO Product Key

If you are on an active Maintenance & Software Assurance (M&SA) agreement, please contact our PIPE-FLO support via the support portal or by sending an email to [email protected] If you are not on an active Maintenance & Software Assurance (M&SA) agreement, please contact our PIPE-FLO sales team by email at [email protected].

If you have a corporate IT department, please contact them for guidance on how to receive your update. If you are the license holder or a member of an IT department that handles PIPE-FLO, before you attempt to download the upgrade installer, please ensure that you have the appropriate license for the version you are attempting to download. Please contact support via the support portal or by sending an email to [email protected] if you have any questions or to obtain your new license key if you have not already. Due to high demand, please allow 24-48 business hours for license processing. Please follow the instructions from above, and click on the appropriate version of the software to initiate your download.

4. FLO-Master - General Questions

What is the FLO-Master™ Academy?

The FLO-Master Academy is an online training curriculum to help you develop valuable skills in hydraulic system modeling and analysis and be recognized by certification for your mastery of those skills.

What classes are available & can I take them on demand?

Since no two PIPE-FLO users are the same and PIPE-FLO has many capabilities and applications, we offer a wide variety of classes covering basic functionality to complex system troubleshooting and more are being added. Go here to see our latest offerings.

Because of the benefit of hands-on interactive content in learning how to use PIPE-FLO, our primary focus is live, scheduled training. So for now, all of our courses are taught live by our PIPE-FLO engineers.

How long are the classes & when are they held?

Lab courses are delivered in single, easily consumable online sessions of either 2 or 4 hours, depending on the topic being covered. The course catalog located here includes the duration for each class.

In an effort to provide you with options to fit within your day, classes may be scheduled in either morning or afternoon, with start times typically at 8 AM or 1 PM Pacific. Please take a look at the class schedule here under the Calendar tab for the specific start time of the class you are interested in.

I see a class in the catalog that I'd like to take, but it isn't on the schedule. Does that mean it isn't offered anymore?

In order to maintain the flexibility to provide our customers with classes they need when they need them, we don’t fully pack our training schedule. We rotate through the classes, but if there is one you like to take that isn’t currently on the schedule, let us know at [email protected] and we’ll bump up the priority.

Are there any materials included with the class?

Most classes include outlines and exercises depending on the specific topic which are shared during the class.

Is there any theory covered in the class?

We feel that in order to use the PIPE-FLO platform properly you need to have a good understanding of the underlying theory, so in addition to direct how-to content, we make sure you understand the foundational concepts.

5. FLO-Master - Course Registration

Can I register for multiple classes at one time?

Yes, the shopping cart allows you to purchase one or many classes in the same cart.

What happens after I register for a course?

You’ll receive a thank you note with instructions for logging in, testing your connection, and an access code to get you into the portal.

How do I register for the FLO-Master Academy?

Simply register for a FLO-Master Academy course and you are all set!

6. FLO-Master - Online Platform

Can I get a recording of the class?

Because the classes are virtually live, interactive, and include attendees from different customers and industries, we do not provide recordings of public classes out of respect for the privacy of you and our customers.

What if I have a question during the class?

You can ask the instructor verbally or through a private chat included with the platform any question you may have during the class.

Are the classes lecture or labs?

Classes have elements of both instructional teaching and hands-on labs using PIPE-FLO on a virtual lab machine for balanced learning and better retention of concepts and skills.

Do I need to have PIPE-FLO or other software installed on my computer?

No download or install is required to take the training, and that includes PIPE-FLO. Since PIPE-FLO is loaded on the virtual machine in the training platform’s lab, you can take the class even if you don’t have PIPE-FLO loaded on your machine.

However, when possible, we recommend taking your Academy courses on the same device that you use to model in PIPE-FLO. Just access the class through the portal on the web through your browser.

Do I need to use one of my company's licenses during the class?

There is no need to reserve one of your company’s licenses in order to take the class. The virtual machine in the on-line lab is already licensed to run a fully-featured PIPE-FLO instance.

How are the courses delivered?

Courses are cloud-based and delivered on the web through a virtual instructor-led training platform. The platform allows attendees to interact with each other and with the instructor collectively and independently as if they were all in the same classroom.

7. FLO-Master - Certification

Do I have to take all the classes in numerical order?

No, for example, you can take FM203 before FM201 if you would like.

Do I have to achieve Level 1 certification before taking Level 2 or Level 3 classes?

It is highly recommended you obtain Level 1 certification before signing up for Level 2 or Level 3 courses as we don’t go back over the basics in the higher level classes. However, you must obtain certification at Level 1 before you can be granted Level 2 certification, and likewise obtaining Level 2 certification before you are granted Level 3.

I'm an experienced PIPE-FLO user; can I get credit for that?

In recognition of our longer-term users, if you have a number of years of experience with demonstrated competency, we accept that for Level 1 certification. Contact us at [email protected] if you believe this applies to you. We don’t have programs to “testing out” of Level 2 or Level 3 requirements.

I've previously completed the two-day FLO-Master course; can I get credit for that?

Yes, when you enroll in any FLO-Master Academy class just let us know when you took the 2-day FLO-Master course, either on-site at your facility or one of our regional in-person classes, and we’ll credit that to your Level 1 certification.

Do FLO-Master Academy classes count for Professional Development Hours (PDHs)?

Yes, we grant PDHs for FLO-Master Academy classes commensurate with the content and length of the course.

How do I get my FLO-Master Certification & do I get a certificate for each course?

Each level of certification requires a minimum of 16 hours of instruction at that Level, and requires that you receive each Certification in numerical order. When you have completed the requisite training, we will provide you with your certification. As for each course you complete, you will receive a digital certificate of completion as proof you have completed the course, not to be confused with your Level 1, 2, & 3 FLO-Master Certifications.
